How To Layout Your Small Kitchen

There are a few basic guidelines to follow if you want to improve efficiency and convenience in your small kitchen. The right kitchen layout will provide you with enough space as well as a sleek look free of clutter. By properly organizing everything in place, your kitchen will be very comfortable to work in even with the limited area that you have.

The work triangle is the concept wherein all kitchen layouts are based on. The three main points or structures wherein the imaginary lines are drawn to form the triangle are the sink, the range and the refrigerator. Ideally, the three legs of the triangle should be anywhere between 23 to 26 feet total. A small kitchen may measure less. The idea is to create enough space in between these areas to properly make use of all available centers in the kitchen. The right arrangement of the work triangle will fully determine how well you can work within the given premises.

There are four basic kitchen layouts. Although there are hundreds of others available, all these are usually based on these four and still focus on the work triangle. The layouts are the galley or one-wall, the corridor, the L-shaped and the U-shaped. All kitchen floor plans are classified according to their specific shape.

The most common would be the one-wall or galley layout wherein the kitchen is positioned along one wall. All furniture, countertops and appliances are placed on that single area only. The second most common would probably be the corridor layout wherein the kitchen is laid out along two walls facing each other. This is very efficient since you can easily work at the front and back moving along the work triangle easily. Just be sure that you have another route for persons not involved in the work triangle or they may have to keep passing through and disrupt kitchen tasks.

Next is the L-shaped kitchen layout which is laid out along two adjacent walls or sides of a room. This frees up more space for people not involved in the work triangle compared to the corridor which has a narrow aisle. The U-shaped kitchen layout makes use of three sides and has the same advantage of more space in the work triangle. Small kitchens may have to strategically layout everything if you intend to use the L or U shape. Islands, furniture and large appliances are used in order to help direct traffic and make the work triangle as efficient as possible.

First off I mean ranch as in farm, not 1 story house :P -------------------------------------- I designed this house for my parents, it's got 2 levels, a large 3 stall carport and a separate 4 car garage. There is a completely covered wraparound porch on the exterior looking out over a pool in the back and a stainless outdoor kitchen. Inside the front door is the entry hall facing the U shaped stairs, to the right is the island kitchen, complete with black granite counters and stainless appliances, past that is the service entry, laundry, and pantry. Behind the kitchen is a large and airy living room with two story oak ceilings and a soaring double sided fireplace, which is shared with the dining room. The living room also has second story atrium windows. Next to the dining room is a wet bar. To the left are 2 bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom, and a half bath. The master bedroom has it's a double door entrance and cathedral ceilings, as well as french doors going out to the back. Adjacent is the master bath, complete with two 6' vanities and a walk in shower, as well as access to the master closet. The ceilings in the bathroom aren't supposed to be two story but in Sierra there's no way for me to get them how I want so I just left them. Back through the hall and into the guest bedroom, which has a double window overlooking the front yard and a private bathroom. Pros: It has a programmable timer. You can set the length of time it stays on (up to 4 hours). There's no need to have a glass carafe to worry about breaking. The coffee holder area comes out for easy cleaning. The cup holder comes out to allow taller cups.

Cons: The fill area is small and awkward. If you miss, the water will run under the coffee holder and get on the burner. If that happens the unit may not turn on and run. There is a hole in the bottom to let that water out but it goes right onto the counter underneath. When you flip up the lid the moisture runs down the back and onto the counter causing a messy situation. Does not accept very tall cups. The pour spout is back underneath and it can be hard to see how much is in your cup.

My advice: buy the extended warranty. I had to take mine back 2 weeks before the extended warranty expired.

Japanese Oven Baked Flounder

Ingredients:

* 4 flounder fillets

* 1 tablespoon low-fat margarine

* 2 tablespoons sake

* 2 tablespoons light soy sauce

* 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

* 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger

* 2 teaspoons sesame oil

* 1 teaspoon honey

* 1 teaspoon lightly toasted black sesame seeds

* 6 ounces shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and thinly sliced

* 4 leeks, green tops only, cut into 1-inch pieces

* 1 large carrot, peeled and cut into 2-inch long matchstick strips

* 1/2 large red pepper, seeded and cut into thin strips

* Steamed rice, accompaniment

* Sauteed Shiitake Mushrooms

Sauteed Shiitake Mushrooms:

* 2 tablespoons olive oil

* 3/4 cup sliced shittake mushrooms

* 1 tablespoon sesame oil

* 2 tablespoons light soy sauce

* 2 tablespoon sake

* 4 lemons, zested and juiced

Prep Time: 20 min
Cooking Time: 30 min

Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Cut 4 large squares of heavy aluminum foil large enough to hold 1 flounder fillet and one-quarter of the vegetables. Lightly put margerine one side of each and set on a work surface.

Lay the fish flat in a baking dish. In a bowl, whisk together the sake, light soy sauce, lime juice, ginger, sesame oil, honey, and black sesame seeds. Pour over the fish and let marinate for up to 45 minutes. Arrange 1 fish fillet on each sheet of aluminum foil and top with one-quarter of the shiitake mushrooms, leeks, carrots, red peppers, and marinade. Wrap tightly and place on a baking sheet. Bake until the fish is cooked through and the vegetables are tender, 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and unwrap each package. Transfer the fish and vegetables to 4 large plates and top with the cooking juices. Serve with Sauteed Shiitakes and hot steamed rice.

Sauteed Shiitake Mushrooms:
Place a saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and heat. When the oil is hot, add the mushrooms and saute until they begin to give up their liquid, about 5 minutes. Add the sesame oil, light soy sauce, sake, and lemon juice and zest and cook for 3 minutes.

The prep time is very minimal for this fruit crumble, and there will not be much effort spent on cleanup after you get it into the oven. And it is a very tasty dessert for almost any occasion.

Ingredients you will need:

4 Cups of Apples, I prefer Granny Smith, but use what you like

2 Cups of fresh cranberries

2 Cups of sugar

1/4 Cup of brown sugar

2-3 Ounces of a good Brandy, if you will drink it then it is okay to eat it. I prefer not to use any wine that I would not serve at my table.

1 1/2 Cup of rolled oats

3/4 Cup of butter

1/2 Cup of flour

1/2 cup of almonds

1/2 cup of walnuts

You will need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. If you are using a gas oven you may need to play with the temperature if you are prone to burn, or over cook things. At this time you will need to get your baking pan, and grease it well. The baking pan you will need to use should be a shallow one that will hold 2-3 quarts. At this time you will need to combine all of your apples, cranberries, and sugar, and brown sugar, into the greased pan. You will then drizzle the Brandy over the mixture. The alcohol will burn off, it is just to add extra flavor.

You will need to have a separate mixing bowl handy, so you can mix the other ingredients to incorporate a good coating of sugar. So, in this separate mixing bowl you will add your rolled oats, sugar, flour, almonds, and walnuts. You will give this a quick toss to get them evenly mixed together. You will sprinkle this mixture over the fruit and sugar mixture in the greased baking pan. While you are doing this make sure you are coating the fruit mixture evenly. This will help for a few reasons, it will keep it from burning, and it will help it cook evenly through the fruit crumble.

Once you get all of your fruit crumble mixture into the baking pan, there is one last step, you will add the butter. You will need to cut pats of butter, and place on top of your rolled oat crust. This will give it flavor, and help with the browning process. After 15 minutes in the oven you will need to turn 180 degrees. This will help during the cooking process, to make sure it cooks evenly, and to ensure even browning on the crust. You will cook approximately 30-45 minutes or until done. Enjoy.

The yield for this dish is 8 servings.

SmartPower Premier Blender- Black & Brushed Review

I bought this blender at Bed Bath & Beyond. It was about 0 and looked to be more powerful and heavier than the Kitchen Aid 5 model. I also preferred the mechanical connection between the base and the blade. The power is transferred by two gear-type things that have several teeth that mesh together. The Kitchen Aid models had what looked like a two ended wing nut that matched up with only two of the teeth of the base. I had read reviews on Epinions about the 5 models breaking off these teeth and not being repairable. So I disregarded the 5's rebate and opted for the Cuisinart.

Performance:
Well I've had it for a few days and it's working great. I've been mostly making frozen drinks so the ice crushing capability is important. The unit is very heavy, which makes it feel very stable when running. I find that a big plus because I don't want something with 600 watts to be walking around all over my countertops. It comes apart easily and also cleans up pretty easily.

It's only got two speeds but that seems to be adequate for most anything. There's an Ice Crusher setting but I haven't tried that yet, since the regular settings have worked fine for this.

Design:
It looks great. It took me a little time to get used to the plastic handle but I eventually decided that I liked this better than the integrated glass handles on other mixers. I guess I figure that they could too easily break if they fell over on a tile counter. Don't know this for a fact but I'm sure the plastic would handle it better. I like the metal base as it feels well made and solid.

The plastic ring around the base of the container feels a little plasticy but that's what it is made of so I guess that's just the way it is.

Combine salmon with ¼ cup of corn flake crumbs, mayonnaise, lemon juice, green onion and mustard. Form tow patties and coat with remaining corn flake crumbs. Bake in an oven for 20 minutes.

For a Cajun twang, combine a can of salmon with garlic salt, Cajun seasoning, dill, Worcestershire sauce, eggs, prepared Spanish rice, grated Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs. Fry the patties in olive oil until each side is golden brown.

One of my favorite restaurants is the Cheesecake Factory. Cheesecake Factory restaurant recipes are delicious! I have been scouring the internet recently for the best Cheesecake Factory Restaurant recipes. After doing some extensive research, here are several amazing Cheesecake Factory Restaurant recipes.

Cheesecake Factory Oreo Cheesecake
Filling:
1 1/2 pound cream cheese
1 cup sugar
5 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup flour
8 ounces sour cream
5 Oreo cookies (coarsely chopped for the batter)
10 coarsely chopped Oreo cookies for the topping

Crust
1 1/2 cup Oreo cookie crumbs (about 25 Oreo cookies finely chopped)
2 tablespoon melted butter
93 spring form pan (buttered on bottom and sides)

1. Mix melted butter with Oreo crumbs and press in the bottom of the spring pan and 1 1/23 up the sides, set aside.
2.All Ingredients must be at room temperature before beginning. Beat cream cheese with a mixer on low until fluffy.
3. Slowly add sugar and continue beating cream cheese until mixed well.
4. Add eggs one at a time and continue to beat until blended.
5. Measure the vanilla, salt and flour, pour into cream cheese and egg mixture and beat until smooth. Add the sour cream and beat.
6. Stir in the coarsely chopped oreo cookies with a spoon.
7. Pour cream cheese into the spring pan and place the nine coarsely chopped Oreo Cookies on to of the cream mixture.
8. Place pan on the top rack and in the middle of a preheated oven at 325 degrees F and bake for one hour and 15 minutes.
9. After that time, keep oven door open and let the cheese cake stay in the oven for one hour. Remove from oven and let cool enough to place in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Cheesecake Factory Pasta Da Vinci
1(1lb)box penne pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced
1 large red onion, finely chopped
1(4ounce)can sliced mushrooms, drainedor
1/2 cup rehydratedshiitake mushrooms
2 tablespoons mincedgarlic
1 cup madeira wine
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup sour cream
1-2 tablespoon butter

Directions
1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Place cooked and drained pasta in separate bowl.
2. Heat oil in skillet and saute chicken, onion, mushrooms, and garlic.Remove from skillet;set aside. Add wine to same skillet and simmer over medium heat until liquid is reduced by two-thirds. Add heavy cream and sour cream and heat through.
3. Remove from heat and swirl in butter. Toss with pasta.

Cheesecake Factory Vanilla Bean Cheesecake
1 envelope plus 1 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cold water
1 1/2 cups milk
6 egg yolks
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups heavy cream, whipped

1. Soften the gelatin in cold water and set aside for later use.
2. Beat the egg yolks in the top of a double boiler until light and lemon colored. Gradually beat in the sugar. Add the salt.
3. Scald the milk and gradually stir it into the egg mixture. Cook over hot, not boiling, water until thickened, stirring constantly.
4. Blend in the softened gelatin and vanilla. Chill until the mixture begins to thicken, stirring occasionally to prevent a crust from forming on the surface.
5. Fold in the whipped cream and spread cream mixture onto cheesecake.
Chill until firm.
6. Garnish with lightly sweetened whipped cream.

Cheesecake Factory Avocado Egg Rolls
2-4 servings
30 mins prep time
Egg Rolls
1 large avocado, peeled, pitted, & diced
2 tablespoons sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
1 tablespoon finely chopped red onions
1/2 teaspoon fresh cilantro, chopped
1 dash salt
4 egg roll wraps (can also use won ton wraps)
1 egg, beaten
Oil for deep-frying
Dipping Sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
4 teaspoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1/2 teaspoon tamarind pulp
1/2 cup honey (I use slightly less)
1 pinch turmeric
1/2 cup chopped cashews
2/3 cup fresh cilantro
2 garlic cloves
2 green onions
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin

Dipping Sauce
1. Combine vinegars, honey, tamarind, and saffron in a microwave safe bowl. Stir until tamarind is dissolved completely.
2. Microwave for 1 minute.
3. Using a blender, Puree tamarind mixture, cashews, cilantro, garlic, onions, sugar, pepper, and cumin.
4. Pour mixture into a bowl and stir in oil.
5. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Egg Rolls
1. Stir together avocado, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and salt.
2. Distribute filling evenly on the center of each egg roll wrapper.
3. Fold one corner up, 1/4 of the way over the filling.
4. Brush the remaining corners and edges with beaten egg, roll up the left and right side, then fold top corner over all and press to seal.
5. Repeat with the remaining wrappers.
6. Deep-fry the egg rolls in 375 degree oil for 3-4 minutes, or until browned.
7. Drain on paper towels.
8. Slice egg rolls diagonally in half and serve with the prepared dipping sauce.

Start thinking of a toaster oven as a substitute for your full size conventional oven and not as a substitute for your four slice toaster. You want to look for a convection toaster oven. Convection ovens circulate heated air using a high temperature fan. Food heats faster in a convection oven because the fan blown air disturbs the thin layer of insulating air that otherwise surrounds the food.

If you live in an area of the country where Summer means 24 x 7 air conditioning a convection toaster oven can save you both discomfort and money. Instead of turning on that monster oven to roast a chicken or bake a pie and heat up your entire kitchen in the process, go with a convection toaster oven. For a small family a digital convection toaster oven can meet all your household cooking and baking needs. You can use it to bake, broil, toast, dehydrate, and defrost. A .5 cubic foot model can roast a 5 pound chicken.

Although the better models can reach an internal temperature up to 500 degrees F convection toaster ovens can cook at a lower required temperature than a full-size conventional oven and also cook the food more quickly. Moroccan Wagyu Meatball Stew

Ingredients:

For wagyu meatballs:

* 1 lb wagyu ground beef

* 2 tbsp chopped Italian parsley

* 1 tbsp chopped fresh coriander

* 1/2 teaspoon shichimi togarashi

* 1/2 red onion, peeled and finely chopped

* 1/4 tsp cayenne

* Koshur salt to taste

* 2 teaspoons olive oil for pan frying

For the stew:

* 2 cloves fresh garlic, peeled

* 2 medium onions, peeled and finely chopped

* 1 green bell pepper, cored, seeded and chopped

* 1 small bunch of Italian parsley, chopped

* 2 lbs tomatoes, chopped

* 1 teapoon shichimi togarashi

* 1 teapoon freshly ground black pepper

* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

* 2 teaspoons yuzu juice

* 1 1/2 teapoon Koshur salt

* 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced

* 6 eggs

Prep Time: 20 min
Cooking Time: 40 min

Instructions:
Combine all the spices and mix.

Then Combine all the ingredients for the wagyu meatballs but be careful to not over mix. Lightly mix beef with a folding action. If beef is over mixed end result will be less tender and overly firm. Form into 1 inch balls with wet hands, again be careful to not over work the beef.

Heat a 8 quart stove-top casserole pan and add the olive oil. Brown the meatballs in the oil, then remove, leaving the oil in the casserole pan. Set the meatballs aside, covered.

Add the garlic, onion, and bell pepper to the reserved oil in the casserole pan and saute until the onion is clear. Add the remaining ingredients for the sauce and simmer, covered, 30 minutes until the sauce has cooked down to a thick gravy.

Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer uncovered 30 minutes more. Carefully bread the eggs into the sauce and poach for a few minutes (don't overcook the eggs.) Serve immediately directly from the casserole pan.

The ideas I am offering here are not new. I'm sure you have heard of most of them but are you using what your know, is the question?

(1) Making your own bottled tea

A one time buy of several water bottles or reusing the ones you have is an easy way of stretching your food dollar. Sun tea is better than any store bought bottled tea. You can easily make it to suit your taste. Any large clear container will work. Use up to 3 family tea bags per two gallon container, (mine came from my local dollar store) fill it with water, add the tea bags and set it in the sun. Depending on how strong you like your tea let it set from three to five hours. The water will be warm but not hot. Add the sweetener of your choice....yummy!

(2) Visiting a farmers market for fresher and most times, cheaper, produce.

If you see something you have not tried before, ask the salesperson how to cook or use it. People that grow food items are always the best source of advice on how to use their product.

(3) Using all that you cook or make with little waste.

Now that you have shopped for your food, you want to use it in a way that will give you the most for your money. When I'm making soup I save anything that I can put in my stock pot. Yes, even potato peelings. The ends of onions, celery, carrots and potato peeling all make for a better stock for your soups or stews. You will want to wash your potatoes before peeling, to make sure the dirt has been removed.

(4) Replace ice cream with frozen ripe fruits or juices.

Sometimes we throw away half eaten fruits because we do not know what to do with them. Freeze or dry them for future uses. Half an apple, banana, some berries or peach can all become the beginning of a great smoothie drink or home made pie.

Save enough pennies you will soon have dollars.

(5) Have a picnic dinner in the back yard once a week. Kids love picnics and just because you can't get to the lake or park doesn't mean you can't have one. If you do not have a picnic table, lay an old quilt on the grass and sit down to a meal. It could be the same hot dog or hamburger you were going to serve for dinner in the house but make it into a picnic and it becomes an adventure for the whole family.

Recent bad news from the US includes the news that Whirlpool corporation are to close its manufacturing facilities in LaVergne, TN, U.S. and Reynosa, Mexico.

Production of built-in refrigerators currently manufactured at the LaVergne facility will be moved to the company's Fort Smith, AR facility, and production of side-by-side refrigerators made at Reynosa will shift to Whirlpool's Ramos Arizpe, Mexico site. At LaVergne, approximately 500 jobs will be eliminated, while at Reynosa, an estimated 750 jobs will be affected. The Fort Smith plant expects to add approximately 275 jobs by December, and the Ramos Arizpe facility plans to add an estimated 600 employees by mid-year.

Like wise in the UK, The Electrolux Group has announced that it is to close its loss-making cooker factory in Spennymoor towards the end of next year and consolidate production into an existing cooker plant in Poland. The Spennymoor factory manufactures AEG, Electrolux, and Zanussi cooking appliances - mainly free standing cookers - plus a smaller number of built-in ovens, for the UK and Irish markets and has approximately 500 employees.

"This development, in combination with a shift in consumer preferences from free-standing cookers to built-in cookers, has eroded the competitiveness of our Spennymoor factory. Running a loss-making factory is not sustainable which is why we have decided to consolidate our UK cooker manufacturing into our factory in Swidnica in Poland." said Magnus Yngen, head of Electrolux Major Appliances Europe.

The closure of the Electrolux cooking appliance factory at Spennymoor means that cooker production in Britain will be limited to range cooker production plus a handful of niche built-in manufacturers. This is seen by many in the industry as an inevitable outcome due to the lower production costs from producing appliances in the far east.

Serve a savory and wonderful dish of steamed clams when you follow this exquisite recipe. Just remember, sometimes the most delicious dishes take a little effort to prepare. Quick prep is not always the way to go. These Portuguese-style steamed clams are one of the many dishes you will want to really be sure that you set aside enough time to prepare. Get yourself ready. Choose a nice wine, and decide on a salad and tasty side dish. Maybe you could prepare a desert the night before, just to save time. Be sure you have a fresh loaf of delicious bread, as well as some lemon, and use shallow dishes of melted, salted butter for dipping your clams.

Use fresh clams for this recipe, you will need five pounds of clams still in the shell; be sure to scrub them well. The night before you make this dish, soak the clams in salted water, a splash of vinegar, cornmeal, and a combination of fresh black pepper and cayenne pepper. If you do not soak them overnight, be sure to soak your clams at least for a couple of hours before you begin. You will also need one and a half pounds of chorizo in thick slices, a 14.5 ounce can of diced tomatoes, a quarter cup of olive oil, fresh lemon, a large onion - sliced thin, a half a cup of ground sausage, and two cups of white wine.

You will need 30-40 minutes to prepare your dish, and it will cook for 20 minutes, approximately. This is because sometimes cook time will vary depending on where you live - especially if you reside considerably above sea-level. The first time I prepared one of my favorite dishes in a mountain cabin instead of in the valley, although it was a recipe I had made over a dozen times before - it didn't turn out exactly the same and I was very disappointed. So please consider elevation as a factor in your cook time - if that particular concern applies.

Alright, so you have your ingredients and plenty of time; your clams have soaked for at least a couple of hours and you are ready to get cooking. Here is how you do it: Wash your clams in cold water. Next, discard any clams that are already partially opened. Prepare the clams in a stock pot with a lid that fits tight. Then add the sausage, thin onion slices, diced tomatoes, and the white wine. Next, cover the stock pot and turn the heat up to the high setting. Steam the clams over high heat until all of the clams open up. Shake the pot periodically to be sure that the clams are heated and steamed evenly. Finally, drizzle your quarter cup of olive oil gradually over the cooked clams and divide the ingredients evenly into shallow soup plates. Separate the broth into individual side cups for dipping; you will also want to have melted butter on-hand, as I mentioned before. Slice your lemons and serve with the entrée as garnish or for extra flavor, to taste.

I usually keep my bread in a warmer or bake it fresh right before I serve this dish. I like to serve a salad of fresh mixed greens to start as the clams finish steaming, so that they can be served piping hot. Asparagus with fresh parmesan makes a delicious side-dish for this recipe. Serve with a white wine of your choice, or water with wedges of lemon as a non-alcoholic alternative. Fruit and fine cheeses such as a nice, fancy brie may serve as a tempting desert. Or perhaps you could serve a baked cheesecake or an angel food cake with a nice fruit topping to end the meal. And don't forget to offer coffee!

This recipe may just make your reputation as a cook rise higher than you ever expected before, so don't skimp on the details. Presentation is also key. No problems so far, approximately one year later. Doesn't get a whole lot of use though. The main complaint is regarding the blender jar pour spout. What an inefficient design! Liquids just spill over the edge then drip down the side of the jar when uprighted. Also, the inside ridges that go from top to bottom which help to knock the food around are poorly placed. There are four, one in the middle of each side. It would be better to have two on each side because having them in the middle makes it hard to use a spatula without making a mess. When scraping contents to spout (such as it is) it exits at either side of the spout. Not a good design. It's nearly enough to earn 3 instead of 4 stars.

This easy cake recipe is easy because there is actually no baking involved. This is a chilled easy cake recipe. The pudding helps form the cake together while the whipped topping acts as a kind of cement. The chill of the refrigerator brings all the cake ingredients together. It really is that easy!

Easy Cake Recipe-- Angel Lush

Prep and Chill: 1 hour, 10 minutes (makes 12 servings).

1 cup frozen nondairy whipped topping

1 (4-serving) box vanilla instant pudding mix

1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple in juice (undrained)

1 (15-ounce) bakery round angel food cake

1 cup fresh mixed berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries, rinsed)

Chocolate Pudding Ice Cream is a snap to make-just 10 minutes prep time and the kids will love it! This extra thick, smooth, rich and creamy chocolate ice cream has a lot of body to it and is so simple to make. Instant chocolate pudding is the secret to making this ice cream recipe turn out great time after time.

1 Cup whole milk

1/2 Cup granulated sugar

1- 3 1/2 ounce box instant chocolate fudge pudding

2 Cups whipping cream

1 Teaspoon vanilla

Mix all ingredients with a whisk in a medium bowl. Cover, refrigerate, and chill for 2 hours. Whisk again before pouring into your ice cream maker.

Following the directions on your ice cream maker, pour the mixture into the container and let mix until thick, about 15-20 minutes. Can be enjoyed immediately or if you want a firmer ice cream, transfer into an airtight freezer container and place in the freezer at least 2 hours.

Cuisinart MP-14N Limited-Edition 14-Cup Food Processor Review

When I buy a new kitchen or household item with lots of competitors I do loads of comparison/contrasting and research first if it's over a hundred bucks...Knowing it was time for a new food processor, I began comparing models. However, I found it a tad difficult to do with all the different blades, codes, etc.

Therefore, once I had completed my own shopping and comparisons, I thought it might be helpful for anyone else in the same situation if I posted my own comparisons here.

I'll start by saying I decided to order the Cuisinart Limited Edition Metal 14 cup food processor on Amazon. I found it to be the best value for my own needs and it was cheaper here than anywhere else I looked as of the time of my review. I chose Cuisinart because it's known to be the best but what made me decide on the limited edition may not be what you would want...this way you can compare and decide.

I chose a 14 cup because I love soups and big batches of dough.

I only looked at stainless because I only have 2 electronics on my countertops....this will be one. And it best match the appliances.

So...that said...here we go: (these are all by Cuisinart)

I compared The Custom 14 food processor DFP 14BCN.
I will call this "C from now on.

I compared it to the Limited Edition 14 cup MP-14N
I will call this "LE" from now on

I compared also the Elite Collection 14 cup FP 14DC
(I will call this "E" from now on)

All have extra large feeding tubes which replaced the small ones of food processors of yesteryear so you don't have to prechop veggies to get them in the feeding tubes. All come with spatulas to scrape them down. All have parts that are dishwasher safe.

Other:

LE: also comes with attachable beater blades so you don't have to keep your mixer on the countertop or drag out two appliances for some mixing chores. Bowl is made so no food gets caught in grooves or corners. Cord can be wrapped underneath machine.
E: also comes with attachable 11 cup and 4.5 cup bowls with pour spouts and measurement markings for small chores. These nest inside the 14 cup bowl. Some have complained that the narrow base and wide top, which makes the nestling bowls fit in, don't allow as smooth of mixing and also that food gets caught in a rim making this bowl harder to clean after mixing things that get trapped like shredded cheese and fine nuts. This is the only one that comes with an accessory storage case with a lock...nice to keep blades away from kids. You can also wrap cord under unit on this one.

Conclusion:
What I wanted in my food processor may be different from you so I'll note a few things. For me, the Limited Edition was what I purchased because it was far higher priced everywhere else on the internet including the Cuisinart site itself so I thought it good value and its price on Amazon, it's warranty was the best and it had the most powerful motor of all of them so, since I use it often, this was a plus. Also because of its powerful motor it is best for doughs as was the solid metal dough blade. I have a huge kitchenaid mixer that I don't keep on the counter so having the beater blade attachment was great for quick mixing when I don't wish to drag it out of the pantry. Because most of my slicing is the 4mm and I never do any fine shredding, the adjustable blades weren't needed for me (and I can buy them later if I want them...all parts are interchangeable on the 14 cup Cuisinart food processors.) BUT if you are someone who wants a variety of bowl sizes and blades, then I'd say the Elite would be the best choice. It's also nice that that one comes with an accessory storage case. However, I find having to unstack the small bowls housed inside the large one and get food out that gets trapped in the seams were an annoyance I wished to avoid. I found the custom to be too simple with a lesser motor and poor warranty and no mode specifically for dough. And the powerprep is fine but more basic as well with a lesser warranty and motor for almost the same price as the uber food processor...(the limited edition). Might be ok for those who rarely use the machine who know they won't wear out the motor. Also, Cuisinart is really going "old school" on this model to include a VHS tape with it...rather than the DVD included in the newer models. Still it's got an induction motor which is still better than the Custom and the Elite...(but the Elite has more wattage to it's motor inspite of the fact it's not an induction motor.) Final thought is for the price, the parts, the mega motor, the commercial grade and the warranty of the Limited Edition along with its ease of cleaning and stremlined look... it just pulled out ahead of the game for me.

I'm very happy with my purchase...my old food processor was working fine but had the small chute and didn't offer near what this new one does and it looks impressive on the counter even though I'm very picky about anything out on the counter in my kitchen as my kitchen is open to the living room so I have to keep it neat. The metal is attractive, the motor is SO quiet for what it is, and the chopping power is tremendous...I did a couple batches of dough already too and it makes some FINE pizza in no time because of it!

Negatives: Some complain about the new food processors having safety mechanisms that won't allow the machine to start unless everything is aligned perfectly. For me this is not a negative because the newer machines with the commercial induction motors being loose would easily chop off your head. And that's a kitchen mess none of us want. They aren't your mama's old school food processors that whir at a low speed...these things do all but chop logs and they'd probably do that too. I want nothing loose when this baby starts!

p.s. If you buy shredded cheese, try shredding your own in the food processor instead...not only will you save lots of cash to help pay for the food processor, :-) but shredded cheese is coated so it won't stick together. If you shred your own it actually tastes soooo much better and fresher, and it melts better. Same with meat...except of course for the melting part!

I got this coffee maker based on the Amazon reviews and Consumer Reports reviews...
Basically I like this unit.... but.. given the reviews I think I had unrealistic expectations... It makes good coffee and the features work great.. However, I really did not see much improvement in flavor over my old Mr. Coffee unit.

I like a bold to extra bold cup of coffee... and this unit works well to make a good cup of coffee. I have no problems pouring water into the unit even though the opening is a little narrow. Some have complained about the level indicators inside the unit BUT HEY .. just measure the water in the pot and there is no problem... the pot and the unit actually match unlike some coffee makers I have had over the years. I like the gold filter but you do get some grinds thru to the coffee. No big deal.. I also use the #4 paper filter with no problems... perfect fit. The auto timer works well as do the buttons to set the time.. The adjustable heater works well on the low setting so that you don't burn your coffee if you let your coffee stay warm for a short time. It looks classy and nice and makes good but not delectable coffee.

Cuisinart is not alone in this study. Even though a cookware line as a whole is very good, there may be components that are not as great. Therefore, know that you will probably need to invest in a couple of individual pieces to complete your ideal set.

Some experts recommend not buying an entire line of cookware. Instead, they suggest you should buy one quality product at a time. This way when the pieces are combined, you have the best set possible for your needs. While this seems more expensive, in the long term, you may end up saving money if you need to replace the lesser items in a line.

Since I've received my Cuisinart food-processor, I've made dough, cole slaw and chopped a bunch of veggies...a few times each. This machine is very easy to put together and does a wonderful job at any task. I make bread dough and it comes out so well that I don't even need to knead it by hand anymore. Just love it. It is a very versatile machine and I can't imagine going back to kneading a 4 cup dough with my hands.
The processor looks very nice - doesn't occupy that much space and the machine is very sturdy.
An excellent value for the money!

I've only had this blender a couple of weeks. It is loud, but it is so much better than my older GE blender that I am in 7th heaven. When it came, I thought a part was missing, and I went to the web to contact them - they have VERY easy to use customer support and a phone number handy. I know, because I filled out the form and then found my part, so I called them. I am happy to know they have good customer support and there are no long hold times.

Be careful unpacking it - the little plastic piece is up in the side of some cardboard and is easy to miss.

The food processor works great. it is VERY sharp - I know because stupid me put the blade loose in a drawer, reached in, and cut my finger. Now it has a special place on a little nail in my cabinet. :) Seriously, be careful with that thing!

The blender makes great mixed drinks and is easy to clean. I just put some soap and water in it and run it, then rinse it out good.

The food processor slicer makes great potato chips! I use it for scalloped potatoes as well. It gives a nice uniformly thin slice. I use both blades to make slaw. It's awesome.

My only complaint is that I wish they'd made the feeder tube a bit wider. You can fit about an average cucumber in there.

I got this food processor a month back in a pretty good deal (It was my first purchase with the Amazon credit card, so I had to pay only .99 for the thing). The motor is pretty powerful compared to its peers and it shows in the performance as well. The knife edges demand to be handled with extreme caution as they are REALLY sharp.
I have mostly used it to make onion-tomato paste (for Indian cooking) and that hardly takes 10-15 seconds.
Chopping chicken pieces was also remarkable fast and even. I am yet to use the grind feature so I shall have an update on that later.
The best thing about this is that its dishwasher safe which is the real time saver.
On the downside, the power cord is pretty small and the jar doesn't seem to be very strong (I may be wrong though ...)

I used this only twice and was able to make cookie dough in seconds and mince food in seconds... This is only a 3 cup FP... Remember that! It isn't designed to do the job of the 7-cup... I read all the reviews and the ones that are disappointed with this product seem to be using it beyond its design - for very small 3-Cup max jobs this is your tool... I read another review that said they love it as a beginner FP - I couldn't agree more!

It may not be worth the 50.00 but when they sell it on special for like 35.00 - then pick it up - that is what I did and I am happy with it.

My intensions were to use the heck out of it and let my 9 yr old, who loves to cook, use it as a learning tool to become a better baker... And for that we are very pleased!

We have owned this particular model for over 4 years and it operates without fail. It keeps the coffee hot all day! We have owned many coffee makers over the years and by far this one is the best.

The spillage problem comes from coffee grounds getting into the mechanism at the bottom of the filter basket. If you clean it every once in a while by running water through it and working the mechanism you will find that it works fine. I dont know how you can overfill the unit it has an overflow hole in the back of the reservoir. It is also neccesary to make sure the filter basket is closed all the way.

It holds the largest amount of coffee with the exception of those units with heating element to keep the pot warm

As far as the loud beep yes it does have 3 loud beeps when the coffee is done but its not any different that the microwave or other appliances. In fact if you are setting it on a timer for the morning it can make a nice alarm letting you know it's time to get up and your coffee is hot, ready, and waiting for you!

The only negative thing I can say is that we have had ours so long that the writing for the buttons have worn off. Fortunately we know what each button does.

If you are looking for a carafe style coffee maker I don't think you can beat this model. I hope that when I am ready for a new one that this one is still on the market as I would definitely buy it again!!!
